Letting go of emotional baggage can be one of the hardest things to do. With ingrained belief systems and past hurts, the mere concept of this seems daunting to the adult parts of us. Having worked with many clients over 11+ years, the walls that they have built up to protect themselves from hurt and pain is quite extensive. Examples range from boulder like structures to science fiction energy field barriers and behind these walls usually have been a number of small children that were wounded very early in their lives.

So one of the key strategies that Sanlyn Wellness has used to create the art of letting go has been to find these little individuals, create a dialogue of communication and begin to create a level of trust using Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Chakra Therapy. Often times these energies have been scared, angry, lost, bratty and even invisible. These children may resist the attempts to connect because they has been disconnected for so long and are in a place of being survivalist and alone in this world. The key word to emphasize here is an unconscious pattern of DOUBT that had been created by these little selves to survive the turmoil of emotions they experienced in the early development of their existence. RESISTANCE and overwhelming feeling of DOUBT have become entwined in the protective layering of these children to the detriment of progression in the bigger adult part of the individuals.

"It has been this method of little by little that has seemed to be the most effective manner of allowing these children to come out of hiding and grab the adult hands as they break the defensive barrier down."

Sanlyn Wellness has focused on the one step at a time approach to breaking down these defences. From clients experiences and the feelings of being stuck in the mud syndrome that has been observed over the years, little pieces of the wall are tackled one at a time and various different tools are experimented with to see how much of these fears can be broken down. It has been this method of little by little that has seemed to be the most effective manner of allowing these children to come out of hiding and grab the adult hands as they break the defensive barrier down. When the connection of the little hands and the big hands are made, there is a fusion of the conscious and unconscious hurts. This creates a domino effect of trust and feeling safe enough to take risks knowing that the big part is guiding the way. More and more pieces of the walls fall away and these doubts become weaker and weaker, much like a villain losing his powers when he is defeated by the superhero in a movie or a novel.

Once this has been achieved the letting go has begun. From this energetic release of hurt and toxic feelings, comes a space of being able to open up ones awareness to new possibilities and a higher potential for self-actualization. The universe and its language then begins to work with the bigger and little parts to guide you to a place of peace, happiness, joy and fulfillment.

Having over 11 years of counselling experience which includes working at a Toronto based Psychiatrists office, Lynton Friedman has seen a number of clients with varying degrees of Anxiety & Depression, ranging from mild feelings of being out of control to full blown panic attacks with physiological sensations. It is important to clarify that at Sanlyn Wellness, the practitioner is not a Psychologist nor a Psychiatrist and is therefore not allowed to diagnose disorders, prescribe medication or provide psychological assessments to clients. Sanlyn Wellness function is to use Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and Energy based modalities such as Chakra Therapy to provide another avenue where clients can come and express how they feel in a safe environment and reduce their symptoms.

One of the biggest factors for the success and reduction of symptoms is that the person feels comfortable and is given the choice as to which type of therapy would be best suited to them. Lynton is effective in the initial session at educating and explaining all the different techniques and tools available for the Anxiety & Depression healing process. This gives a client-centred approach and usually allows the person sitting in the office to get a sense of control about how they are feeling.

"As this topic is broad in spectrum, it has been seen many times in sessions when clients are exhibiting anxious or depressive feelings, they think in their mind they are going to die. If one was to associate the anxiety of the death process, there would be a cessation of breathing. In order to calm clients down, breathing techniques are taught which in turn creates a form of positive control and allows the individual at the time to realize they are still alive."

Various ways of Hypnotherapy have also been highly effective in creating success in client recoveries. Scripting Hypnosis is a process where the therapist reads out scripts that deal with specific issues being presented. This form of therapy is pivotal in creating a space where the client can calm the conscious mind down, open the subconscious, take in the suggestions that can switch the negative Anxiety or Depressive thinking process into a positive one. It is here that the clients have learned what is called anchoring techniques. This has been a way to teach the clients a certain move or a position that can be used outside of the Centre when they have a process of feeling anxious in their life. The success of this technique is that it has effectively triggered clients back to feelings of calmness that they experienced in the Hypnosis chair during their sessions.

The second type of Hypnosis used to calm clients down requires a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy. This uses more regressive techniques which takes the client back to the first time they experienced these symptoms and feelings. Once it is discovered what the trigger is, then there is a process called reframing which changes the event in the repressed emotion and helps to heal the event that has been causing distress in the present time to the clients that was seeking the help. This process can take a bit of time, however once found it is usually a great help to bringing balance back in the clients perspective.

Energy based therapies such as Chakra Balancing are also excellent in reducing panic, anxiety and depressive feelings. The body is a store house of Anxiety triggers which also energetically repress emotions into physiological symptoms that can manifest as Psychosomatic experiences. Breathing techniques, coupled with Body Psychotherapy/Somatic Therapy are a great way to allow the body to bring itself back into equilibrium and therefore let go of the stored up emotional baggage that is bringing about the unbalanced feelings.

Self Acceptance is at the core of our desire to be the best person that we were meant to be. The heart chakra (energy field) is the home of this feeling which is not well known to most of us as we have been programmed from an early age to suppress our feelings in our body and subconscious mind. Some of these feelings may be messages we received as children such as; Do better, you are not as pretty as your best friend and be seen and not heard to name a few. This list of negative critical analysis goes on and on and I am certain that you as the reader will be resonating to some criticism placed upon you during your upbringing.

However with guided counseling or healing from a well trained professional, allowing permission of oneself to accept self love is similar to the kinetic energy of the protons connecting with electrons to form atoms. The atoms give energy to life and life energy makes our aura (the vibration people feel around us) more appealing to others. Acceptance of self love allows ones aura to be light and positive. This allows people around us who feed and receive thoughts to be attracted through an unconscious patterning system that is deeply embedded in our being.

"The true beauty of love is being in love with oneself in a non-egotistical state. The act of self love is equal, the atoms are the energy of life, the life that we choose to live, the feelings of being free, the transformation of a cocoon into a multi coloured butterfly which is free to interact in ways that we all wish and imagine could be."

This invisible energy field allows for the equal balance of attraction in respect of giving and receiving to take place. Equal amounts of thoughts and feelings are essentially vital in a path of self awareness and inner healing of core self acceptance issues. The true beauty of love is being in love with oneself in a non-egotistical state. The act of self love is equal, the atoms are the energy of life, the life that we choose to live, the feelings of being free, the transformation of a cocoon into a multi coloured butterfly which is free to interact in ways that we all wish and imagine could be.

Love yourself through transformation and deep inner soul work, connect into this awareness and the self love and acceptance path is set out for you. Respect yourself as you would respect others and all the good acceptance feelings will come flowing to you in abundance. Abundance is love, it is not material, and when you love yourself the rest of the jigsaw puzzle comes together. Acceptance of self is the glue that binds life together.

Phobias encompass an elevated fear level around a single object, a certain situation or a specific place and the desire to avoid it at all costs. Examples include; public transportation, claustrophobia (closed spaces), public speaking and rats.

Phobias are fear based and largely associated with Anxiety. When a person thinks with fear, even though they are not actually in a real phobic situation, many bodily situations may occur. The person may develop sweaty palms, nausea, an increased heart beat and feelings of not being able to breathe. Along with physical reactions, there are psychological components too. The feeling of losing control is huge and the idea of having others see them in that situation is embarrassing and ultimately debilitating.

The job of the trained therapist who deals with client phobias is to find the root cause of the fear which can either be something that happened during their early years of life or an unfortunate traumatic event later in life that could trigger feelings of losing control. The key role of the therapist is to make the client comfortable and guide them to understand that the phobia, although real to them is in fact imagined and a reaction to an event or feeling. This is done without making them feel that they are being judged about their situation.

Hypnosis and Psychotherapy are used to source information regarding the triggers and phobic behaviours. One technique used to overcome the phobia is Systematic Desensitization. This is a process in which the client creates a step by step process through the phobia and goes from the least scary step to the most extreme step. The exercise is done by beginning with relaxation. Once relaxation is reached, each step is tackled to overcome the extreme fear. If the client is not able to make it past a certain step, relaxation is implored to calm them down and once they are more relaxed, the second attempt is taken to get them past that particular step or block.

"This is a highly effective technique and as the author of this article who had an extreme phobia to rats, I can attest to the success of this method as it helped me overcome avoiding rooms and places for days where rodents were spotted. Today I am able to cross paths with rats and not freeze up in my tracks."

The next technique that also works is using Guided Imagery through Hypnosis to take you either to the childhood event or triggering point that brought about the elevated fear and ultimately the phobia. This technique takes more patience and perseverance and requires you to speak while in the relaxed state of altered awareness. Both of the above processes are excellent at changing the beliefs that have been created.
