Letting go of emotional baggage can be one of the hardest things to do. With ingrained belief systems and past hurts, the mere concept of this seems daunting to the adult parts of us. Having worked with many clients over 11+ years, the walls that they have built up to protect themselves from hurt and pain is quite extensive. Examples range from boulder like structures to science fiction energy field barriers and behind these walls usually have been a number of small children that were wounded very early in their lives.

So one of the key strategies that Sanlyn Wellness has used to create the art of letting go has been to find these little individuals, create a dialogue of communication and begin to create a level of trust using Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy and Chakra Therapy. Often times these energies have been scared, angry, lost, bratty and even invisible. These children may resist the attempts to connect because they has been disconnected for so long and are in a place of being survivalist and alone in this world. The key word to emphasize here is an unconscious pattern of DOUBT that had been created by these little selves to survive the turmoil of emotions they experienced in the early development of their existence. RESISTANCE and overwhelming feeling of DOUBT have become entwined in the protective layering of these children to the detriment of progression in the bigger adult part of the individuals.

"It has been this method of little by little that has seemed to be the most effective manner of allowing these children to come out of hiding and grab the adult hands as they break the defensive barrier down."

Sanlyn Wellness has focused on the one step at a time approach to breaking down these defences. From clients experiences and the feelings of being stuck in the mud syndrome that has been observed over the years, little pieces of the wall are tackled one at a time and various different tools are experimented with to see how much of these fears can be broken down. It has been this method of little by little that has seemed to be the most effective manner of allowing these children to come out of hiding and grab the adult hands as they break the defensive barrier down. When the connection of the little hands and the big hands are made, there is a fusion of the conscious and unconscious hurts. This creates a domino effect of trust and feeling safe enough to take risks knowing that the big part is guiding the way. More and more pieces of the walls fall away and these doubts become weaker and weaker, much like a villain losing his powers when he is defeated by the superhero in a movie or a novel.

Once this has been achieved the letting go has begun. From this energetic release of hurt and toxic feelings, comes a space of being able to open up ones awareness to new possibilities and a higher potential for self-actualization. The universe and its language then begins to work with the bigger and little parts to guide you to a place of peace, happiness, joy and fulfillment.

The weight loss market is a multibillion dollar industry. As consumers walking into a supermarket, there is a bombardment of diet products to contribute to the quest of reducing weight. Television, the internet and popular culture magazines have portrayed actors and actresses as perfect individuals with porcelain doll style bodies. This has put an immense amount of pressure onto society as a whole to be skinny, leading to many clients coming to see Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness over the years with issues such as; Emotional eating, body image distortions, negative self esteem, perfectionism and health situations such as diabetes and high cholesterol.

Lynton Friedman is not a medical doctor and when clients choose Sanlyn Wellness to lose weight, the two therapies incorporated to reach their goals are Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy. It is recommended that depending on the amount of weight loss and health concerns, that they check in with their doctor during the process.

"Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness has had a high success rate of clients shedding pounds and feeling better about themselves. It has been discovered with many years of counselling that individuals were focused on instantaneous gratification and have had to dispel this myth to them when it comes to shedding down the weight. Depending on how much weight is required to be taken off, the weight loss program can range from 6-15 sessions. Some clients have enjoyed the way therapies have been administered and stayed longer working on other issues that are beyond the realm of weight loss."

The important factor to remember that has created success with our clients was that weight had to be systematically reduced. Usually 1.5-2.5 lbs were suggested through hypnotic suggestions to be lost on a weekly basis until the weight loss goal number had been reached. The client was made aware that the ultimate goal was the reduction of weight, however the process could be lengthy and in order not to get despondent, Lynton Friedman found that by allowing the clients to see small changes such as a pair of jeans becoming looser or a lessening of the impulse for a certain type of food, that the process was on track and the realistic goals were within reach.

Hypnotherapy was reinforced over a number of weeks with various different suggestions implemented into the subconscious mind, so as to change the habits that had been formed over many years. Lynton has been well trained in inquiry and figuring out trigger points which contributed to the overall goal of losing weight. Weight loss is multi faceted and underlying emotional factors such as perfectionism and self esteem play a huge role in negative processing. Hypnotherapeutic suggestions were also used in conjunction with the goal setting numbers to produce a double whammy effect on the subconscious mind.

Psychotherapy has also highly effective in learning about the personalities of the clients that have come to see Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness. Emotional eating was prevalent in many individuals that were taken through inquiry in the initial sessions. Using talk therapy Lynton was able to see that with some clients that there was a correlations when they were lacking sweet interpersonal relationships, sugar became their substitute sweetness and when they were feeling bitter about life they chose to find salty potato chips as compensation. Using this information, suggestions were incorporated into scripts to shift this processing. Lynton Friedman is also able to do regressive Hypnotherapy and zoom into the first time they felt these feelings and change the mindset to a more positive outlook. This has tended to reduce the level or desire for the food and certain flavour that is being craved.

Stress clients brought into sessions from their daily lives is one of the biggest issues that Lynton Friedman at Sanlyn Wellness has dealt with during many years in private practice. Stress builds up over time and once it pokes its head into awareness, the havoc that it creates sets off a chain reaction of erratic behaviours. Many reasons and life events create stress. It could be divorce proceedings, relationship and communication breakdown, a death of a close relative, time management imbalances between family/work life or job related dissatisfaction to name just a few reasons. Sanlyn Wellness has seen all of these above issues and has successfully helped guide many clients back to a more balanced and less stress free lifestyle.

"Sanlyn Wellness has had success with clients because of empathy and listening very carefully to what is occurring in the clients lives. The role of Lynton Friedman is to guide the clients, by allowing them to piece back together the puzzle of negative emotions they feel in a more positive healthy manner."

Psychotherapy has been particularly useful in this arena because often times clients are so wound up that they do not have time to feel or breathe. One way Lynton helped clients was by getting them to connect to their feelings through some Body Psychotherapy techniques. These can be explored more fully in sessions at the Centre. Breathing exercises are also taught to allow the clients to bring themselves back into homeostasis and these have been shown to help improve clarity. With some of the fog lifted, personal space and boundary techniques were reinforced with the clients allowing for a less reactive response to people around them. This in turn tends to help reduce pain in the body which can be a natural reaction to the body being out of balance. Clients are also taught to take some time to themselves so they can actually feel the changes taking place.

Hypnotherapy is another phenomenal tool to use when clients have been stressed. General relaxation and anchoring techniques were used to create stress reduction success for the clients that Lynton had seen. Teaching the mind to switch off could be difficult. Hypnotherapy is effective in reducing thoughts and in fact some clients have actually over the years wanted to stay in the Hypnosis process because it is the first time in a while that they had actually chosen to quiet down their mind to a peep. Lynton Friedman would naturally bring them back into waking awareness. Nobody can indefinitely stay in a hypnotic state. Hypnosis has also been beneficial in allowing the clients to find trigger emotions that were sometimes causing psychosomatic pain in the body. Sanlyn Wellness has used a number of Hypnotherapy techniques to reduce the pain to in order to find some of the repressed emotions that may be bringing about the stress and anxiety which comes with pain in the body, mind and spirit.

Lynton Friedman and his extensive experience has shown using both the modalities mentioned above in this article to have been the most effective way to keep the stress levels at bay. Sanlyn Wellness does keep in mind that some people may be adverse to Hypnosis and Lynton has been good at educating the effects of using this technique to reinforce the positivity.

Hypnosis and Psychotherapy are a great combination to allow clients at Sanlyn Wellness to quit smoking. The smoking cessation program and techniques are highly effective at eliminating the smoking habit. One of the key variables to define if clients are suitable for the stop smoking program is to inquire before they even enter the Centre, whether through email or phone consultation how serious they are about quitting smoking. A scale of 1-10 is asked, with 10 being the highest. If the number is below 7, it is explained to the prospective client that Hypnotherapy works more effectively when the there is a higher degree of willingness to eliminate the habit. Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness has had a high success rate of getting clients to stop smoking because he is ethical and not just looking to bring anyone into the space. Lynton prides himself on being serious about seeing clients achieve their goals and works with them to achieve long lasting results like so many satisfied clients in the past.

"With any type of Hypnotherapy process, the quieting of the mind chatter is a strong barometer for the success of the program. Every client that comes to Sanlyn Wellness has a differing degree of how strong their conscious mind is and how receptive their subconscious mind can be to suggestions for habit change. Without giving away specific details, examples are provided in this context that are generic as to protect the confidentiality of the clients."

Sanlyn Wellness has had clients eliminate smoking 25 cigarettes a day in as little as 1 session by closely listening to their reasons for wanting to end their smoking habit. Some of the reasons were health related, while others were new relationships or the birth of a child etc. Compassion and listening by Lynton were instrumental in allowing clients to feel safe and secure. This made it easier for specific suggestions to be implemented, which had been discussed during the initial inquiry phase of the session. There were however times where the conscious mind had deep and intense defenses in place that made it more difficult to stop smoking after 1 session. There were some clients that had taken up to 4 sessions to quit smoking only 7-8 cigarettes a day because as mentioned above the defenses were stronger and the need to control situations were more focused in the forefront. This is where Psychotherapy is used to figure out why the defenses are being resistant to change. Lynton Friedman is well trained in both modalities and the combination of the techniques usually leads to a good result for the clients. Reinforcement is also key to success of the suggestions sinking into the core subconscious part of the brain.

Lynton Friedman looks at the ROI, this is the rate of return on the investment. With a high success rate at Sanlyn Wellness and not a huge amount being spent through the program, you are going to be saving a lot of money and improving your health over the long run. To provide an example of this, let us use a client who smokes 25 cigarettes a day at $10.00/pack. Take 7 days of the week and you are looking at $70.00 per week. Take the $70.00 and times it by 4 and you are spending $280.00 a month. Take $280.00 and times it by 12 and you have $3360.00 a year. Take $3360.00 and times it by 12 years and you have $40,320.00 to spend on vacations, renovations for the house or to put into a retirement plan to name a few things.

Sanlyn Wellness has had tremendous success dealing with a variety of issues related to self esteem and its branches of self worth, self confidence and self efficacy. The constant variable that collectively deals with all of these above categories is the concept of positive reinforcement.

By changing the mindset and the way the clients see themselves is fundamental to a new belief system within the core of their being. Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness has used a mind, body and spiritual approach to his therapy success with clients. Spiritually the concept of manifestation and affirmations has been applied to allow the clients to learn a new way of approaching how energetically through thought, there is vibration. From this approach, what is in tented into the universe is picked up and put back into their energetic space. Different techniques such as once a day affirmations are taught to clients. This approach with guidance of past client improvements helps Lynton choose for the clients the appropriate time and place during the day to allow the positive reinforcement flow of letting go affirmations work into the awareness of their psyche, which in turn gets channeled into the universal consciousness and changes iceberg core beliefs.

Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy are intertwined together when dealing with the self esteem arena. From past client experiences with different ethnic backgrounds and age groups, there has been found to be a correlation that most of the issues of self esteem, self confidence, self worth and self efficacy came into awareness at an early age. Using Psychotherapy, various talking techniques are used to assess where the clients level of esteem, confidence and worth are. This is usually addressed with a series of questions and mini exercises in the Centre during the sessions. Education of all the branches is also given in order for the client to understand whether their perception and cognition of a certain area is distorted.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool when dealing with self esteem. Hypnosis shuts down most of the critical conscious thinking and the constant anxiety forming mind banter that as individuals we tend to have on a daily basis. Sanlyn Wellness has many different scripts to change beliefs and create a higher degree of positive reinforcement. Scripts that have been used in the past dealt with issues related to blushing, performance anxiety, promiscuity and feelings of neediness within relationships to name a few. Each client that Lynton Friedman has seen over the many years in practice is individual and unique. Although correlations form, the job of the Sanlyn Wellness practitioner has been to come up with specific scripts that are catered to each client’s needs within those sessions.

"Many of the issues started in childhood, therefore the concept of Inner Child work within the Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy modules to change beliefs have effectively been used with strong success rates. These forms of therapy have been about connecting to this energy and making friends with it in order to build trust and faith again. All these techniques when collectively used have been beneficial in seeing many changes in our clients over the years."

To put this into perspective, let us use an example of a client that came in to the Centre a few years ago. To keep with confidentiality, the gender and age has been left out and details are minimal. The client had issues with self esteem in social settings and relationships. After much inquiry and deep unfolding of the issues using talk therapy, Hypnosis was used with positive effects. A combination of ego strengthening techniques were imprinted into the subconscious and the inner child was taught to trust again with positive results. The client got into a relationship and is much better in social settings.

Having over 11 years of counselling experience which includes working at a Toronto based Psychiatrists office, Lynton Friedman has seen a number of clients with varying degrees of Anxiety & Depression, ranging from mild feelings of being out of control to full blown panic attacks with physiological sensations. It is important to clarify that at Sanlyn Wellness, the practitioner is not a Psychologist nor a Psychiatrist and is therefore not allowed to diagnose disorders, prescribe medication or provide psychological assessments to clients. Sanlyn Wellness function is to use Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and Energy based modalities such as Chakra Therapy to provide another avenue where clients can come and express how they feel in a safe environment and reduce their symptoms.

One of the biggest factors for the success and reduction of symptoms is that the person feels comfortable and is given the choice as to which type of therapy would be best suited to them. Lynton is effective in the initial session at educating and explaining all the different techniques and tools available for the Anxiety & Depression healing process. This gives a client-centred approach and usually allows the person sitting in the office to get a sense of control about how they are feeling.

"As this topic is broad in spectrum, it has been seen many times in sessions when clients are exhibiting anxious or depressive feelings, they think in their mind they are going to die. If one was to associate the anxiety of the death process, there would be a cessation of breathing. In order to calm clients down, breathing techniques are taught which in turn creates a form of positive control and allows the individual at the time to realize they are still alive."

Various ways of Hypnotherapy have also been highly effective in creating success in client recoveries. Scripting Hypnosis is a process where the therapist reads out scripts that deal with specific issues being presented. This form of therapy is pivotal in creating a space where the client can calm the conscious mind down, open the subconscious, take in the suggestions that can switch the negative Anxiety or Depressive thinking process into a positive one. It is here that the clients have learned what is called anchoring techniques. This has been a way to teach the clients a certain move or a position that can be used outside of the Centre when they have a process of feeling anxious in their life. The success of this technique is that it has effectively triggered clients back to feelings of calmness that they experienced in the Hypnosis chair during their sessions.

The second type of Hypnosis used to calm clients down requires a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy. This uses more regressive techniques which takes the client back to the first time they experienced these symptoms and feelings. Once it is discovered what the trigger is, then there is a process called reframing which changes the event in the repressed emotion and helps to heal the event that has been causing distress in the present time to the clients that was seeking the help. This process can take a bit of time, however once found it is usually a great help to bringing balance back in the clients perspective.

Energy based therapies such as Chakra Balancing are also excellent in reducing panic, anxiety and depressive feelings. The body is a store house of Anxiety triggers which also energetically repress emotions into physiological symptoms that can manifest as Psychosomatic experiences. Breathing techniques, coupled with Body Psychotherapy/Somatic Therapy are a great way to allow the body to bring itself back into equilibrium and therefore let go of the stored up emotional baggage that is bringing about the unbalanced feelings.

Call or email us to find out more which of these techniques will work for you and become like one of our many clients that have benefited substantially from reducing their Anxiety, Panic and Depressive feelings.

Relationships are challenging at the best of times as there are two individuals presenting situations with different belief systems from family of origin upbringings that are so wide apart. Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness has had experience guiding clients to find balance in the Couples Counselling arena. The choice of the word arena is specific to this area of therapy as it has often felt like in the initial stages of this process that Lynton has had to be the referee in the boxing ring.

The style of therapy that Lynton Friedman used in Relationship Counselling was an approach of effective listening and being an impartial mediator to the situations being presented in the sessions. One of the key success strategies was to have the two parties make direct eye contact with one another and talk to each other while observations were made with the intention of bridging the gaps of the issues that were presented. Another variable that was brought clearly into awareness was the concept of invaders within relationships. These concepts can be discussed more in detail within sessions at the Centre.

"Couples Counselling at Sanlyn Wellness is slightly different from individual counselling as the empathic approach is too soft. More directive therapy is essential for the success of keeping the relationship together. All avenues are explored to see if there are solutions to bring resolution or a spark back into the relationship or marriage. The success rate of being able to keep the relationship moving forward in a healthy manner has been high. "

One example of a success story was Lyntons first ever Couples Counselling session at the early stages of his therapeutic career. Due to confidentiality, the story and details will be so sparse so as to keep the identities from being discovered. To sum the relationship in one sentence, the wife was at her wits end with her husband and was ready to walk out of the relationship. As this was at the beginning of my practice, I was in my late 20’s and the clients were almost double my age. I clearly remember the husband saying to me in a stern voice, “How are you going to help us, you have no life experience and are so younger than we have been married”. I composed myself and responded with “All I ask of you is to sit in here for one session, if I am not what you are looking for, feel free to seek out another counsellor”. I am excited to say that working together with both of them and then individually for a short time, that that couple is still together and in a healthier relationship than they had ever been.

Communication and the language of love are vital for Couples Counselling. From past experiences with this type of therapy, knowing what your partner is looking for in the form of love is so important for growth. Another success that has been effective in allowing couples to reconcile is the concepts of Independence and Interdependence in the relationship.

Addictions have many faces. There is activity addiction which includes things such as; Pornography, gaming and excessive exercising, while there is ingestive addictions such as; Alcohol, drugs and food. Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn Wellness is not a medical doctor. The function of the Centre is not to deal directly with the physiological withdrawals of addiction, however to be an adjunct support network to helping clients see the issues and path that have taken them to the space of becoming addicted to a substance or activity.

One of the ways Lynton has had success in the past is getting the client to see that often there is secrecy and enabling behaviour that goes into the addictive process. Not every addiction has an enabler, that being a person who encourages the behaviour, however more so from our experience there seems to be one. Lynton Friedman is not a Clinical Medical Addiction Specialists, however he has been trained in addictions theory. Sanlyn Wellness uses Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy techniques which are excellent in finding triggers and reducing the impulses.

When clients have addictions, the underlying consistent factor across most client cases has been the numbing out effect of a situation or memory in their life. Much of Sanlyn Wellness successes has come with intensive peeling away of layers of emotions to find the root cause which ultimately creates the effect, being the behaviour. Psychotherapy is excellent to do this. There have to be very good listening skills on the part of the therapist to catch the cues to look for and ultimately shift the behaviour. Once these cues are in the forefront, Hypnotherapy can be used to reduce the impulse and reframe the situations being presented through the Psychotherapeutic process.

"Hypnotherapy is fundamental in creating visualizations that are long lasting and associated to reducing the desire for the activity or substance. One success story was a client who needed to stay clean from a hard drug for the critical 7 month relapse period. After a few sessions which mixed the above two techniques together, a visualization of a superhero who had the ability much like Spiderman to shoot webs out of his hands causing him to stick to the wall was placed into the subconscious. This particular suggestion was the one that kept this individual from seeking drugs and allowing him to clean up his life and move into a better space. "

Lynton Friedman has created a relaxed space in Sanlyn Wellness to allow the clients to feel safe and secure. The empathic and calming approach to his work creates a space of trust and a letting go of negative control by the clients. This is core to healing and stopping Addictions. Sanlyn Wellness does not claim to completely guarantee an elimination of the behaviour, however there has been high success rates in reducing cravings and support structures to allow the clients to focus their energies into more positively channeled areas of their lives.

If you are looking to overcome an Addiction and are intrigued by how Hypnotherapy can benefit you, call or email Sanlyn Wellness and Lynton will be more than glad to answer your questions for you.

Performance Anxiety is an area of the worry and fear spectrum that leads to adverse reactions of the person in respect of a particular activity they are about to embark on. Sanlyn Wellness has had many years of experience working with various aspects of this particularly debilitating anxiety issue, whether it is stage performance, work team leadership forums or even having an intimate encounter with a partner.

"Observation of clients over a number of years who have been suffering from this type of Anxiety shows that this fear and worry is rooted in wounds of childhood which is brought out through Inner Child dialoguing and Meditative style Hypnosis techniques. The effects of the stress it places on the mind, body and spirit is much like the stone that is thrown into a river."

As the stone hits the water, you see a rippling effect of rings that spread out. The ripple causes irrational thinking and many clients sessions are consumed with the idea that if this is not taken care of immediately their lives are over and catastrophic effects are going to happen. The obsessive thoughts of not being good enough create the feeling of being frozen and stuck in the mud syndrome and worst case scenarios are played over and over like a broken record player.

The key to helping and guiding the individuals in this situation is to get them to see that it is something that is easily fixable with a bit of investigation and empathic counseling. The individuals are taught that it is not an immediate one session quick fix and a few sessions will be required in order to take a step by step approach of bringing the irrational thinking within a framework of talk therapy and effective coping techniques. The first step is to get the individuals to discuss the issue or issues in depth, look for key factors, words and actions that give clues to the trigger points of the excessive worry. The second step is then to do calming techniques which will allow the individual to feel more in positive control of their thoughts and lastly the final step/technique is to get the client in a deeper relaxed state, which then allows a dialogue with their wounded child to take place to find out why they are feeling scared, worried and alone.

Sanlyn Wellness has seen remarkable shifts and changes in clients with public speaking, team group work, exam anxiety and sexual dysfunction to name a few. If you feel this article resonates to you and would like to explore in more detail the techniques, call or email Sanlyn Wellness and we will be glad to assist you towards moving to a happier and less stressed out you.

Sanlyn has over the years worked with a number of clients who have had high degrees of Anxiety and have lost the spark of their creative potential. Often after a Chakra Balancing session has been done, the neck area has been shown to have energy channel imbalances.

These imbalances can sometimes be unblocked using various Energy Therapy techniques. One other way Lynton Friedman of Sanlyn works with this issue is to suggest the client begin to paint as a way of flowing the energy into that area. With this suggestion comes resistance because often time’s clients think they are not talented enough to draw or paint.

"Education is key to the resistance. Teaching the client that art is subjective is the key to unlocking the flow of creation. "

What is meant by subjective is that one piece of art shown to 3 different individuals will elicit a different reaction from each of them and the observations of the 3 people are neither right nor wrong. Once this is explained, it seems to settle down the client and the seed of creating has been instilled into the psyche.

The settling effect then leads the discussion of painting and creating as an important tool for relaxation and meditation. The colours chosen by clients represent their state of mind, their emotional being and the focus on the piece brings a tunnel type processing where the mind goes into an elevated state of concentration that allows the individual to forget about the anxiety and other worries of the day. This calming effect is quite similar to a mild state of Hypnosis. The closest example of this would be someone at home watching a television show and tuning out to the world around them.

This relaxed state slows down the thinking process, calms the blood flow and most importantly clears the mind to allow the subconscious to come out and ultimately chose the creation that is best resonated to your energy at that time as well as your creativity.

If you are interested in learning more about chakra balancing, painting as a relaxation tool and the colours connected to both modalities, email or call Sanlyn Wellness to book an appointment.
